Like most great Ubisoft properties, Prince of Persia has been AWOL for a long time now, and in this case, it has basically been a decade since we last had a proper entry in the form of The Forgotten Sands. So, we are definitely glad to see that the Prince will be making his comeback with a remake for the Sands of Time.

Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, is easily one of the best Prince of Persia games, and one that really popularised the IP with a lot of the series staples we see today, so it is great that this is the game that was chosen for the remake. The remake will be coming with a lot of updates including:

  • Enhanced Visuals
  • Brand new character models
  • New cinematic sequences
  • New parkour animations with updated controls
  • Updated soundtrack

It is really cool to know that the original voice for the prince is also back, someone who very recently was acclaimed for his work on insomniac’s Spider-man. That voice actor, of course, is non-other than the master of energetic characters, Yuri Lowenthal!

Another interesting thing to note is that the game is being built in India mainly, namely in Pune and Mumbai. So, I do hope this game does really well, and they get to tackle even bigger projects, as it could make for some really diverse games coming out of the country, and will hopefully show Ubisoft that it’s fine not to make everything super open-world.

I am very excited to see the updated tale of the Prince versus the Vizier in this game as well, especially since the original still stands up with an interesting plot that really uses the strength of its setting. However, I do have some reservations regarding the outdated looking graphics, and lacklustre facial animation, but I think the latter can definitely be improved by launch.

Sadly, I don’t think that the graphics will be updated massively. Which, to be fair I don’t mind, but it would have been nice to get a remake on the level of Resident Evil 2, something I will always count as a benchmark for remakes! Of course, with this being a Ubisoft game, they were only too happy to share the pre-order incentives which really should be just available for everyone:

  • The Original Outfit: Travel back in time with the original costume of the Prince.
  • The Original Weapons Set: Mythical weapons of the past are back and will be yours!
  • A Classic Screen Filter: Change the graphics of your game and give it an old-school feeling.

Prince of Persia: Sands of Time will be remastered for the PC, PS4 and Xbox One, and will release in January, 2021.
