During the Xbox 20th anniversary event, a massive 76 games were added to the backwards compatibility list. However, they will also be the last.

Each of the 76 backwards compatible games added will take advantage of the Xbox Series X|S HDR. Furthermore, each of the OG Xbox games will have a 4x resolution on Xbox Series X and Xbox One X. Whereas the Series S will have 3x resolution and 2x resolution for Xbox One S and Xbox One.

As good as this news is, there is some bad news. Announced on the official Xbox website that the 76 titles will be the last added to backwards compatibility. Xbox compatibility program lead, Peggy Lo said: “While we continue to stay focused on preserving and enhancing the art form of games, we have reached the limit of our ability to bring new games to the catalogue from the past due to licensing, legal and technical constraints.”

In fairness, I suppose it’s not reasonable to expect every OG and Xbox 360 game to be added to the backwards compatible list. Microsoft has spoiled us, and that’s awesome.
