Last batch of new characters for Dissidia 012 revealed?

As Dissidia 012’s March release date (the 25th in the UK) draws ever closer, info on the last few new characters to join the roster is trickling in. First up is Prishe, one of the key characters in FF11’s second expansion pack: Chains of Promathia. Sadly she probably wasn’t on the top of every ones most wanted list for 012, in fact I’d be shocked if many English speakers have even heard of her! While many of the characters in Square Enix’s foray into the MMO genre such as fellow Dissidia combatant Shantotto proved quite popular in Japan, to western audiences they’re relative unknowns. Still, the more the merrier right?

Apparently she is going to fight in a similar way to Tifia; a brawler who primarily relies on her fists as apposed to the traditional RPG weapons like swords and spears. There’s no gameplay footage of her just yet, so only those who braved their way through FF11’s surprisingly cutscene dense narrative will have much of an idea how she is going to work.

It’s also recently been confirmed that FF7’s Aeris (or Aerith if you want to get fussy) will be making an appearance, but only as a support character whose assist moves have the power to restrict an enemy’s movements and make the player temporarily invincible. Of course that’s only if you decide to drop Square some extra cash buy purchasing the stand alone prologue/demo: Dissidia 012 Prologus (Oh! I see what you did there!) in order to unlock her in the full game.

While I’m sure Prologus is a great money spinner and all, Square kinda forgot that hackers like to dismantle PSP  game code for kicks. So thanks to some snooping around in the Japanese version, we now know the identity of what will probably be 012’s final new character: the dimension traveling sword collector Gilgamesh from Final Fantasy 5………1, 4, 6, 8, 9, 11 and 12…….yeah, he gets around.

There’s no English release date for Prologus just yet, but hopefully it wont be too long as I need something to tide me over until late march! Here’s the latest trailer if you appetite is not yet suitably whet.
