When speaking to Kinda Funny, Naughty Dog developer, writer and director Neil Druckmann, re-confirmed that The Last of Us Part II will have a multiplayer mode at some point in the future and that it will be a separate standalone title.  For me personally, I was a fan of the multiplayer in the original game and I loved that it had a focus on factions, and had a true sense of working together as a team.

However, it never didn’t gain the online player numbers that it perhaps deserved and if you go in it on your own, teaming up with randoms, against a proper team, the game was a struggle to say the least.  So I’m hoping that it will retain much of the features from the previous multiplayer mode and with The Last of Us 2 being even more of a commercial success in terms of sales, I’m hoping that it will generate a much larger online player base.

Druckmann also stated that unlike the original game, which had the fantastic Left Behind expansion, The Last of Us 2 won’t be getting the same DLC treatment or at least it seems.  Druckmann said that there are “No, with Last of Us I think we had some Season Pass or something that said ahead of time we have some story DLC–no there’s no plans for that [with The Last of Us Part II]”.  But we’ve heard this many times before from some developers, claiming that a successful game won’t have DLC, to only get some later down the line.
