GoldenEye 007 responds to fans asking for online multiplayer
Finally, after months, if not years of rumours and speculation, GoldenEye 007 finally released for Xbox and Nintendo Switch.
However, while the Nintendo Switch version (via the online Expansion Pack), GoldenEye 007 is playable both online and offline. Sadly, the Xbox version only features local multiplayer.
Sure, it’s always great to have old-school local multiplayer, though it’s nice to have an extra option to play, especially for those friends that might not live nearby. So naturally, fans have been asking if the Xbox version will eventually get online multiplayer. However, it might be beyond the control of Rare. The developer of the Xbox port, Code Mystics Inc. responded to the following saying: “We’d be excited to get the chance, but it’s not our call.”

What’s more, another fan was questioned as to why the Xbox port is only playable in 30FPS. Having played GoldenEye 007 myself, I certainly noticed the dip in framerate. So why does a game that was originally released in 1997 struggle on the modern-day Xbox? Well, it seems to be the fine balance of emulation software.
To get a fully authentic reproduction, emulation was used to reproduce the original logic/design exactly. It could be overclocked to prevent dips *below* 30 FPS, but the original logic was designed for 30 and malfunctions at 60 FPS. Emulation accuracy can be a double edge sword.

Hopefully one day we’ll get online multiplayer for GoldenEye 007. However, if that aspect is not in the hands of Xbox, then who? We can only speculate by putting two and two together.
