Gran Turismo 7 has been delayed on PlayStation 5 and will now be released in 2022 due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

The news comes via an interview for GQ Magazine with SIE President and CEO, Jim Ryan.

A statement from developers Polyphony Digital was given to GQ Magazine which reads:

GT7 has been impacted by Covid-related production challenges and therefore will shift from 2021 to 2022. With the ongoing pandemic, it’s a dynamic and changing situation and some critical aspects of game production have been slowed over the past several months. We’ll share more specifics on GT7’s release date when available.

Let’s be honest, with or without the global pandemic the chances are that Gran Turismo 7 would have been delayed anyway.  After all, this series is synonymous with big delays.

However, this series is known for its simulation excellence on console and with this being the series’ first new-gen outing, excellence is what’s expected and if GT7 needs a delay, then so be it.

Thankfully it seems that Horizon Forbidden West still looks set to release this year for PS4 and PS5.
