Crystal Dynamics have announced today that the upcoming Tomb Raider reboot has been delayed until early 2013, to be released sometime between January and March. Darrell Gallagher the studio boss of Crystal Dynamics, explained in a post on the official Eidos forums the reasons why this decision has been made;

“When Crystal Dynamics first set out to reboot the Tomb Raider franchise, there were two goals that we were extremely passionate about. The first was to create a modern Tomb Raider game that would surprise and excite gamers. The second was to make this the best game of our careers, something we would be really proud to be a part of. We truly believe that we have something very special on our hands and we can’t wait to share it with you.”

The Tomb Raider reboot tells the tale of a young Lara Croft and her adventuring origins. As Tomb Raider is considered a modern classic by many, we are certain they only want to release a game of high quality as to not tarnish the brand of Lara Croft, as well as open up her world to a new audience. Gallagher went on to confirm that the studio aren’t resting on their laurels with the Tomb Raider reboot announcing that;

“We’re doing things that are completely new to Tomb Raider in this game and the additional development time will allow us to put the finishing touches into the game and polish it to a level that you deserve.”

Accompanying this news was a single screenshot (top of the page) that at least confirms to us there are signs of life and hopefully confirms that Tomb Raider will suffer no further setbacks.
