According to recent reports, Horizon Zero Dawn is reportedly being remade or at the very least, remastered.

The reports are courtesy of MPS1ST, and sources have also been collaborated by VGC. Some sources have claimed to have seen the remake/remaster running and it is said that its release is to bring it closer aligned with Horizon Forbidden West on the PS5.

The remake/remaster is said to feature improved character models, animations, lighting, and more. It is also said to feature more accessibility options, perhaps similar to God of War (2018) and Ragnarok, as well as The Last of Us: Part 1 and Part 2.

Sources of VGC also claim that developers Guerrilla Games are working on a multiplayer Horizon game, said to feature co-op. While I wouldn’t go out of my way to ask for a multiplayer Horizon game, a Hunting Grounds-inspired co-op game could be interesting.

Sources said that Sony had been keen to include co-op in the game’s sequel, Forbidden West, but Guerrilla decided to save the feature for a future project, which they believed would either be a standalone online spin-off, or Horizon 3,” said VGC sources.

Personally, I’m not keen on the prospect of Horizon Zero Dawn getting a remake or even a remaster. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love the Horizon series. However, the original game still looks great on the PS4.

Furthermore, HZD received a free PS5 update enabling the game to run at 60fps at a 4K resolution. So, does HZD really need a PS5 remake or remaster? Not in my opinion. I like remasters and remakes of my favourite games, but the window between these updated games seems to be getting shorter and shorter of late.

In my review of Horizon Forbidden West, I said: “Horizon Forbidden West takes up so much of my time because I simply cannot get enough of it. It’s one of those games that I can’t stop thinking about when I’m away from it. Speaking of which, I’ve got to go. After all, I’ve got a post-apocalyptic world to save. Horizon Forbidden West is the first must-have PlayStation exclusive this year.
