Konami Squashes Recent Silent Hill Revival Rumours

Earlier this month, a report from Rely on Horror stated that they had sources which claimed Sony have reached out to Konami about reviving Silent Hill and having exclusivity on the PlayStation brand.  However, Konami has now spoken on the rumours and it appears not to be good news for Silent Hill fans.

Speaking on the rumours to Rely on Horror, a Konami US rep said “We’re aware of all the rumours and reports but can confirm that they are not true. I know it’s not the answer your fans may want to hear.”  They did also state that that the door isn’t entirely shut on the series, but it won’t be brought back in the way in which the rumours suggested.

It’s a shame, because I have no reason to not believe the reports from Rely on Horror and in truth, I believe that they wouldn’t report on the sources if there wasn’t an element of truth (or so they believed).  In saying that, let’s say the rumours were true and Silent Hill was coming back, Konami wouldn’t make the reveal by responding to rumours.

Konami’s recent words do not give me much comfort and it’s not like I have a lot of trust in the publisher nowadays and I fear this great series might continue on being milked as glorified pachinko machines.  However, back in January, Konami did tell Eurogamer that “We cannot share anything at this point, but we are listening to customer feedback and considering ways to provide the next title. “  And in February, it was confirmed that a new Silent Hill (and Fatal Frame) movies are on the way, so there is some comfort to be taken.

If I was still trying to be optimistic, I would say “never say never”, but then the pessimist in me says “I wouldn’t hold your breath”.  Are also disappointed by this news, share your feelings of “meh” across our social media channels.
