Action platformer The Forbidden Arts, currently residing in early access, has been given a release date including other platforms it will feature on.

The story follows Phoenix on his journey of self-discovery as he jumps and fights through a magical world filled with a variety of evil and monsters.

The developers say they were inspired by western and eastern cultures when creating the world, and have made a number of biomes for the levels – including snowy fields, swamps and even giant beehives.

As for the gameplay: now, I admit is looks a little rudimentary, but I get a nostalgic pang that reminds me of Dragon Valor when I watch the trailer. Dragon Valor wasn’t the best reviewed game on PS1, but its mix of side scrolling action, platforming and magic made for a charming game (and the melodic soundtrack, another thing that The Forbidden Arts boast of having, certainly had plenty to do with that as well).

Hopefully this turns out just as endearing for all. The game will release on Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC on 7th August. A later date (Q4 2019) for PS4 is still to be confirmed.
