Today, video games have never been more popular than they are now and as we edge towards the new console generation, that popularity will only continue to grow.  And with 1 in 4 people across the world that are known to suffer with mental health issues, you can bet that a lot of the suffers or “saviours” as I like to refer ourselves as, are avid gamers.

Speaking from my own experience, as an 80’s child with undiagnosed Asperger’s at the time, and victim to daily bullying, I can vouch to how much an important role videogames played in my life.  It wasn’t just a distraction to the troubles in my life at a very young age, but it offered an genuine, fun, form of escapism and as an adult today with my own child, gaming plays an equally important role in my life to this very day.

Back in the 80’s, when playing on either my Spectrum 128k (before it broke) and my Commodore Amiga 500, one of my favourite games to escape to, was the Dizzy series.  A game about a lonesome egg that would go on a world of adventures’ and treasure hunting.

So, why am I rambling on about mental health, my childhood and a game starring an egg?  Well, the reason being, is that mental health charity, which also celebrates the importance of gamin in our lives, Safe in Our World has announced a new partnership The Oliver Twins, the creators of my beloved Dizzy series for a limited run of epic retro t-shirts.  One of which is “Dizzy The Adventurer” with a % of its sales going directly to the Safe in Our World charity, as well as a portion of the Seven Squared digital stores profits also going to the charity.

You can check out the Dizzy The Adventurer” t-shirt here, as well as a Dizzy Fantasy World” t-shirt here, both of which will benefit the charity in question.  Will you be picking up any of these t-shirts?  Let us know across our social media channels.

I know it’s never easy to talk, especially with that initial step towards getting help, but even when you might not think it, whether it’s a family member, friend, someone you’ve forged a bond with online or if it means contacting fantastic charities such as Safe in Our World, someone will listen.  You can also find additional information on the Safe in Our World charity via their official website, as well as on their supporting Twitter, Facebook and Instagram pages.
