A trailer has been released announcing a new mode to the action adventure rogue-lite Below.

Below was released back in 2018 on PC and Xbox One, but the game is now coming to PS4 as well.

The game is unique to describe, certainly, but essentially it is a top-down action adventure with randomly generated environments and rogue-like elements such as permanent death. You must journey with your little character through the depths of a strange island, uncovering its secrets and taking on hostiles that lie underground.

When the game initially released it garnered generally good reviews, with people praising it for its mystery, atmosphere and intriguing visual design, however it was also slated for being frustrating, repetitive and having a lack of direction.

Either way, it’s clear the game has great artistic merit, and for those who might find the game a tad too difficult, this announcement may calm your nerves a little.

The explore mode, while not entirely clear on what it will entail (the press release states it will feature “changes to survival, death and damage, tuned to be accessible for players who seek more of an action-adventure style of play”), sounds likely to be simply an easier mode – maybe where you take less damage, or perhaps removing the permanent death feature.

For those who already own the game on PC and Xbox One, this mode will be added as an update for you to enjoy as well.

It is a relief when games like this offer something for the less skilled or dedicated gamer, and I can see myself switching to this mode promptly if things got a bit too much to handle.

There’s no specific release date, but the game is due to release on PS4 sometime during this spring.
