Bandai Namco Looks to take on Nintendo Labo with Tori!

Bandai Namco is looking to try something different this year from their long-line of videogames with what is called tori.  My first initial thought was that tori will be an alternative, but perhaps of the same targeted market as Nintendo’s Labo.

Much like Labo, tori aims to have families craft and customise handmade toys (if you will), which will then be implemented into the game with augmented interaction.  tori will be aimed towards children between the ages of 6 years to 12 years old, with parents joining in on the fun too.

The motto of tori very much seems to be to encourage “individual creativity, collaboration and critical thinking” with children learning as they play.  Powered by ISKN, the contents in the tori Explorer Pack will include tablet type device known as the tori Board, as well as the tori Wand, tori Catapult and the tori Spacecraft.  You will then be required to download five available apps at launch, with more to follow at later dates.  The tori and its apps will be compatible with iOS and Android devices.

ISKN co-founder and CXO Timothée Jobert had this to say on the tori and their partnership with Bandai Namco “We’ve always imagined our augmented interaction technology as a user-friendly means to spark creativity and emotion. Collaborating with Bandai Namco Entertainment was the opportunity to bring fun, magic and imagination to everyone”.

While SVP of Marketing, Digital & Content at Bandai Namco Europe, Hervé Hoerdt added “We believe in creative, playful and active methods that develop activities where problem solving, creativity and concentration are at heart. In such regard, tori™ allows kids to have fun and express their personality through creative and interactive experiences with a perfect balance between on and off-screen time.

Whether the tori will truly take off and not only make their way into homes across the country, it will be interesting to see if it has the all important sustainability.  However, speaking as a parent and a husband to a wife that works in childcare, the concept of tori is certainly intriguing and it’s worth keeping an eye on.  But let us know what you think about the tori across our social media channels, will it be a success or will it fail?  Do let us know.

The tori Explorer Pack will release this year on October 2nd.
