#E32017 Nintendo announce Metroid Prime 4 for Switch & Metroid 2 remake for 3DS

Metroid Prime 4 was announced by Nintendo during their Nintendo Direct stream at E3. The title is being created by a new team, and not the Wii Metroid Prime trilogy by developer Retro Studios.

Even though the studio is different, Metroid Prime producer Kensuke Tanabe is still heading the project. Not much was revealed about the title other than Metroid Prime 4 is coming to the Nintendo Switch. It was quite a surprising announcement considering it has been 10 years since the release of Metroid Prime 3 and one that we can’t wait to hear more about.

As well as the Nintendo Switch announcement, Metroid 2 is being remade for the Nintendo 3DS/2DS. Metroid: Samus Returns will be coming to 3DS/2DS this September and is the first full-fledged Metroid titles on the handheld device. The last original Metroid title was Prime Hunters on the DS.  Metroid 2 is certainly a great handheld title and it’s nice to see Nintendo revisit such title.

Metroid fans will also be happy to know that Metroid: Samus Returns will be getting a Limited Edition exclusive to Europe. It features a steelbook styled after the original Metroid 2 cartridge, a free download code for said GameBoy game, a keychain, an art book and a pin.
