#E32019 Konami Announces the obscure PC Engine Core Grafx Mini Console

When Konami teased earlier in the week that they had a special surprise to be announced at E3 this week, many fans had hoped that it might be a Silent Hill, Metal Gear Solid or Castlevania announcement.  I was one of those excited to see what Konami would pull out the bag, with some sections of the media stating that this could finally get Konami back into the good graces of fans.

So I waited up until 1:30am to see the live announcement and to be honest, I wish that I went to bed earlier to get an extra hour or so worth of sleep.  Not that I appreciated this announcement, as its it offers the chance to play a console that I’ve never played before and it is quite promising in all fairness.  But it would have been awesome to have one of the three games already mentioned announced this week.

So what is the PC Engine Core Grafx Mini, other than being a tongue-twister?  Well it was a console that released in the late 1980’s/1990 in Japan, Europe and the U.S.  It was also the first console to have a CD-ROM add-on and a multi-tap function allowing up-to five players for some games.

The console will come with two controllers (I assume as it has two ports), will put-out the retro games in HD and will of course come pre-loaded with a bunch of games too.  Not all games have been revealed as of yet, but we do know that it will include R-Type, New Adventure Island, Ninja Spirit, Ys Book I & II, Dungeon Explorer and Alien Crush.  Further games will be announced at a later date.
