In a surprise announcement, developers Koei Tecmo and Nintendo has revealed Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, the sequel to Hyrule Warriors from 2014 for the Wii U, which later got ported to the 3DS in 2016, and then for the Nintendo Switch in 2018.

However, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity will also act as a prequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, set 100 years prior to the events of the critically acclaimed Nintendo Switch game.  According to the press release, you will “Witness the events of the Great Calamity first-hand and try to save Hyrule from destruction!

Hyrule Warriors producer, Yosuke Hayashi said that Age of Calamity will feature “exciting 1 versus 1000 battles and a wide variety of playable characters”, while head developer Eiji Aonuma added Age of Calamity combines “the well-detailed world of Breath of the Wild with Warriors gameplay“.  The game will also feature story details, which were not shown to the same extent in Breath of the Wild.

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity will release for the Nintendo Switch on November 20th.
