Update: Well it seems my gut instinct of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales being a 1.5 sequel of sorts were correct.  As it happens, the Sony rep that gave The Telegraph the quote below as part of the original article, has got his wires crossed according to the ever reliable Jason Schreier.  Now at Bloomberg, Schreier has claimed that his sources have confirmed that Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales is not an expansion, a sequel or a story bundled in with a remaster Marvel’s Spider-Man from 2018.  It is in-fact a standalone game, similar to the scope of Uncharted: Lost Legacy, which initially started out as an expansion to Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, but it became so big, that it ended up being its own game.  So there you have it, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales is a standalone game, thank you for clearing that up Mr Schreier.

Original Story: To open up the showcase of PS5 exclusive gameplay reveals, we were treated to the announcement of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales from Insomniac Games.  Now this does seem like it will follow on from the 2018 Marvel’s Spider-Man story, which had the main man, Peter Parker as the star of the show.  However, as it happens, this is in-fact a remaster of the 2018 Spider-Man which has the Miles Morales component acting as kind of an expansion.

When speaking to The Telegraph, SIE EVP Head of European Business, Simon Rutter said “I guess you could call it an expansion and an enhancement to the previous game. There’s a substantial Miles Morales component – which is the expansion element – but also within the game as well there’s been major enhancements to the game and the game engine, obviously deploying some of the major PlayStation 5 technology and features.“

This surprises me, as my assumption was that this is a 1.5 sequel/spin-off of sorts.  No doubt it will be a lot of fun playing as Miles Morales, in what is hopefully a big “expansion”.  We did get a taste of Morales in the original game, but it was only in brief snippets.

The trailer found below, does at the very least appear to have pre-rendered ‘in-game’ gameplay with cinematic cut-scenes, but if that is proper gameplay, that’s very impressive, but even so, I’m super excited for this follow-up.

Marvel’s Spider-Man: Mile Morales will release for PlayStation 5 around Christmas this year, so it is likely that it will be a PS5 launch title.  Are you as excited as I am to play a remastered Spider-Man game dedicated to Mile Morales?  Share us your thoughts across our social media channels.
