The release of Persona 5 draws ever closer in Japan, where it will be out on September 15th. To hype it up the team decided to host a two day event showing off various things and talking about the game. There’s a lot to digest, which is great if you’re the kind of person that likes to absorb everything about a game before it’s released. For those not wanting to have anything spoiled though it may be best to look away now… but we all know you don’t want to do that.

We shall start the video drop with the intro animation to the game. It’s slick and stylish, as we’ve come to expect from Persona games and the music is catchy as heck. Coming in at just over a minute and a half it’s a nice way to get introduced to the characters without giving too much away about them.

Next we have the opening 18 minutes of the game. Obviously there are spoilers, but unless you speak Japanese you won’t understand much of it. There seems to be a heavy amount of 2D animation mixed with in game cutscenes. Something that Catherine also did a lot of. It all looks lovely.

The game also looks like it wants to make sure you keep on playing it for as long as possible, with an infinite randomly generated dungeon to explore which is separate from the main story. Called the Mementos Dungeon you will take on quests whilst riding in your cat friend Morgana… who turns in to a bus. It’s great that there will be something to keep even completionists going back again and again and it will be intriguing to see how infinite the dungeon is.

There’s also a fair few Cooperation Characters shown off with some in game footage. The Cooperation Characters seem to work in a similar way to Social Links in Persona 3 and Persona 4. For a more in-depth look in to everything revealed during the event I recommend checking out the Gematsu article on it, which does a great job breaking everything down. The three biggest points from the event can be seen in the videos above though.

Persona 5 will be releasing next year in the West on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3. It will be February 14th in America, but a confirmed date for Europe is still unknown. Hopefully with Deep Silver officially in charge of it we will see an official release date announced soon, maybe at Gamescom? We’ll let you know when we know.
