Pokkén Tournament DX coming to Nintendo Switch this year, Pokémon Sun and Moon Ultra also announced

Courtesy of Nintendo Direct, Pokkén Tournament DX was announced for the Nintendo Switch. Pokkén Tournament DX is essentially a deluxe edition of the version of the game that released on the Wii U.  However, this DX version will include additional characters, a Team Battle mode, as well as various features that take advantage of the Nintendo Switch’s capabilities.  The Wii U version of Pokkén Tournament gave the players a choice of 16 Pokémon, but the Switch version will grant you 21 playable Pokémon.  The new roster additions includes; Darkrai, Scizor, Empoleon, Croagunk and Decidueye.

Pokkén Tournament will also include a Team Battle mode in which you’ll pick three of your favourite Pokémon to battle it out against other teams, Group Match mode allows you to join up with like minded players for fun and friendly battles, and you’ll be able to watch other online player’s battle replays.  And of course, Pokkén Tournament DX will make the most out of the Nintendo Switch by allowing you to play on the big TV screen or on the go for some multiplayer action.

You can watch the latest Nintendo Direct video below showcasing all of this week’s Pokémon announcements, as well as some concept art images for each of the titles.  Pokkén Tournament DX will launch on Nintendo Switch later this year on November 22nd.

In addition to the announcement of Pokkén Tournament DX, it was revealed that Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon will release for the 3DS handheld devices worldwide on November 17th.  Both titles will have new additions to the story mode, as well as various other improved features, and will introduce Legendary Pokémon such as Solgaleo and Lunala, to name but two (further details will be announced at a later date).

If that wasn’t enough Pokémon goodness for you, then it was also announced that classic titles Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Silver will be coming to the Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console.  Both Silver and Gold will allow you to trade Pokémon between the two 3DS Virtual Console versions, as well as Pokémon Red, Pokémon Blue and Pokémon Yellow.  Both Pokémon Gold and Silver will also be compatible with Pokémon Bank and both titles will release late this year (release date TBC).
