A little blast from the past and a surprising, but welcome, announcement as Star Wars Republic Commando is confirmed to be coming to PlayStation and Nintendo Switch.

The game which released originally on Xbox and PC in 2005 is one of the more interesting Star Wars games, seeing you take control of a squad leader of clone troopers during the clone wars.

An FPS with squad tactical elements, the game was very well received on launch, and features some gloriously satisfying combat as you face off against droids and Insectoids (a quirky feature I remember fondly is the screen wiper that removes bug goo from your helmet’s visor).

While the game is already available for PC and Xbox users via backwards compatibility, this is the first for PlayStation and Nintendo.

Despite the Xbox and PC versions retain a multiplayer option, this release will just include single player. However, it will also feature modernised controls.

If you haven’t played the game, I would highly recommend it – and if your platform of choice would be the PS4, PS5 or Switch then you can look forward to these being available from the 6th April.
