The long awaited sequel to visual novel hit Steins;Gate is now available across Europe, and launches in just a few days in North America (29th).

The game is set on an alternate world-line to the original, this one being *SPOILERS* one where Okabe isn’t able to save ‘the one he loves’ (Makise Kurisu), and promises a darker tone as a result. “A parallel universe where World War III and humanity’s destruction are very real dangers”.

Essentially, after the events of the first game (or the events that happen in a different universe…) Okabe falls into a depression and cuts himself off into isolation. That is, of course, until he finds himself thrust back into the chaos, surprisingly by being reunited with Makise through an artificial intelligence system.

So more visual novel fare to enjoy – and if the initial batch of reviews are to be believed, the game is standing up very well. I was a little worried about the ‘dark edge’ that press releases mentioned, as I thought the original found a perfect balance of tone, but it’s looking promising so far.

If you’re up for more Steins;Gate, the game is available now on PS4 and Vita in Europe. So you can delve into the time travelling universe once again. Take a look at the launch trailer below.
