The Last of Us 2 Out February, New Gameplay Trailer and Collector’s Edition #StateOfPlay

Finally the agonising wait is over, as the release date for The Last of Us Part II has not only received its confirmed release date, but we’ve also had an awesome gameplay trailer and collector editions that will launch alongside the game.

Firstly, let’s get the release date out of the way, The Last of Us Part II will release exclusively for the PlayStation 4 on Friday, February 21st 2020.  The gameplay trailer was very revealing and it put to bed those rumours of Joel being dead, because as we can see in the trailer, he is very much alive and well.  Well, I say “well”, but this is a post-apocalyptic world they live in, full of deadly Clicker zombies and plenty of humans with ill intentions.

In the trailer it seems that both Ellie and her lover Dina are kidnapped and it appears that not only are both of them tortured, but it looks like they may have killed Dina too.  This sparks a story of revenge for Ellie and is obviously what she was referring too when in the PlayStation Experience trailer, she said (to what was believed by some to be Joel’s ghost) “I’m gonna find…and I’m gonna kill…every last one of them.”

While Ellie is scouting the bandit group who did them harm, this is when Joel appears to Ellie’s surprise and he says “Do you think I’ll let you do this on your own?”.  In the trailer we also see the return of Joel’s brother Tommy and we get to see some of the clickers, and what seems to be a large, charging type that will no doubt deal a lot of damage if it hits you.  You can watch the new gameplay trailer below.

However, that is not all, because we have the details on the number of editions you’ll be able to pick-up at launch, which includes a fantastic Ellie statue, as well as an Ellie Edition with an awesome backpack and vinyl soundtrack album.  However, from what I can tell, the Ellie Edition is only appearing on the US PS Blog, so I assume that this edition is for North America only, I’ll update this article if anything changes.
