Microsoft Decides Not to Attend Gamescom and Tokyo Games Show

It appears that E3 is all you’re going to get from Microsoft this year from the big events, as they’ve just revealed that they will not be appearing at either Gamescom or the Tokyo Games Show. Instead, Microsoft will be focusing on smaller promotions and experiences to showcase their titles and announcements in a more localised fashion. It’s an interesting turn, as the Microsoft Press Conferences at those events in previous years, while not as blockbuster as E3, have still been a time for the company to reveal new titles and trailers. In years past, Microsoft used the Tokyo Game Show to detail a number of Kinect Xbox Live Arcade titles including Haunt and Crimson Dragon.

In response to the reports, Major Nelson stated –

As you saw at E3, we have a solid line-up of games launching this holiday, along with other entertainment experiences. We’ve changed our approach a little, though. This year, Xbox will be focusing on smaller, more localized promotions and experiences for press, partners, retailers and customers around the world. Which means that as you might have seen on some of the news sites today, we won’t be taking part in gamescom or Tokyo Games Show this year.

Both are still  important shows for the industry, and we do wish the organizers well.
