#EGX2018 Hands-On: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Preview

I played two short battles in total with Super Smash Bros. Ultimate against my friend and to be honest, I don’t think either of us knew exactly what we were doing, but it was button mashing bliss.  At least when the game releases, I can learn up on the mechanics in my own time, but despite this, I had a very enjoyable experience playing as my flat-butted Solid Snake.

The most recent Smash that I played was on the Wii U and this Switch version felt like an even more polished version of that game, and it was great seeing the stages evolve and change during mid-gameplay.  It’s certainly going to be a mechanic that’s going to keep battling players on their toes.  The gameplay was as fast and frantic as you would expect from a Super Smash title and it felt very much at home playing it on a GameCube controller.  However, I would expect that come release, the Pro Controller would be my personal preference.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will feature every character that has ever featured in the entire series and after playing this brief demo, I’m even more hyped for the game.  Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will also be getting its very own special edition Nintendo Switch console which releases on November 16th, with the game itself releasing on December 7th.
