Activision release Modern Warfare teaser

So just what happened to that ‘orrible little Russian bloke at the end of Modern Warfare 2? Soap and Price were obviously in no fit state of go after him, and the defection of most of Activision’s development staff in the immediate aftermath couldn’t have made for a better diversion if Makarov had orchestrated it himself. Many gamers could be forgiven for thinking that the guy was long gone, and the Modern Warfare franchise along with him, but it seems Activision have other plans.

Hot off the press, I can inform you that the troubled publishing house have just started sending dog-tags to their gaming friends and partners (which, currently, doesn’t include me. But I have a good nose for this stuff, and a useful RSS feed!), each engraved with the following link:

www.findmakarov.com

At the time of publishing, we’re a little under five days away from what promises to be some interesting news. Or another teaser.

I for one am waiting with baited breath, because to be honest with you, I’m expecting the Respawn Studio guys – and all the skills that went into the last two installments of Modern Warfare – to release a huge competitor in the same timescales. Now that would be a battle worth watching.

UPDATE!

It would appear that Activision have denied all knowledge, that they had nothing to do with the distribution of those engraved dog-tags, and that this whole thing is a hoax. While I am, for the most part, gutted that this seemingly-genius piece of viral marketing is a load of rubbish, part of me still isn’t entirely convinced. I guess we’ll have to just do a “Lost” and see what happens at zero.
