At the Microsoft press conference, EA games revealed a new gameplay demo from Battlefield 4, the fourth outing in the popular series. It was one of the major titles to appear at the Microsoft conference, one that most fans were probably anticipating.

Battlefield 43

The demo began with some technical problems, but it soon picked up the pace when it started on a level called “Angry Sea”, and we heard some narrative from the lead operative. The demo took place on a huge carrier, and started with the main characters struggling to fight back against the huge number of enemies in a control room. The scene was definitely beautiful with effects like debris and flame particles everywhere, with our shots penetrating through the glass and cement, which of course, shattered into pieces. After the little fiasco, we then proceeded into this corridor, where the carrier started breaking apart, swallowing some enemies into the gigantic hole it just formed.

We then exited the corridor and made our way to the carrier launchpad as the ship was breaking apart. Due to the complications, some jets got detached and fell into the water below. However, what was really impressive in this demo, was how we used a jet to take down our enemies, by destroying the latch that was holding it. It shows that the game will definitely be putting emphasis on environmental destruction, even allowing you to manipulate situations to your advantage. After that jet incident, we continued fighting our way through the launchpad, blowing up everything in our sights in a spectacular fashion. The demo then ended with us jumping for a combat boat, and using it to put pressure on the enemy vessels as we made our escape.

I think what this demo really showcased was the graphical effects and the environmental damage. It had great lightning, amazing particles and bombastic destruction. Also, from whatever I heard from the background music, it seems to be the same electronic style used in the previous installment. Furthermore, coming back to the environmental aspect of the game, it will be interesting to see if the “utilize your environment” mechanic works out more then once in the game and more strategically.

The game will release on the PS3, PC, Xbox 360, this October 29th and the next-gen consoles probably a bit later, closer to the console launch!
