So, every year we have another Call of Duty coming out, with a new story and setting, however, that has put off a lot of players from the game. CoD is probably the most hated title on the internet, but I know for most people, that even though they complain about it, they go and buy the game anyways. However, that is not what we will talk about today, but instead we will talk about why the campaign of the upcoming, Call of Duty: Ghosts, should matter this time around, and the main reason for this is, the writer that they have chosen. The writer who is known for some very emotional films, like traffic. The writer known as, Stephen Gaghan.

According to the interviews, and coverage I have seen, unlike other writers, Stephen didn’t just go over to the office, hand over a script and call it a day. No, in fact he asked for his own office during the development process, so that he could get involved with the developers first hand. Most writers, even though they excel at writing movies, they aren’t experienced for the game side of a script, and so, Stephen Gaghan needed to ask a lot of questions from the devs, as to what the process would be, what kind of setting they are talking about and all that stuff. He genuinely showed interest and wanted to be a strong part of it.

Gaghan himself talked on GTTV, about how different it was from working on a movie, and how much imaginary freedom it gave him. Unlike in the movies, where his request for a chopper shootout scene, or a huge setpiece would be unanswered, the answer for Call of Duty, would always be a yes. It was refreshing for him to see that whatever he had thought of at 10 am in the morning, no matter how huge, would be presented to him around lunchtime the same day. Gaghan has also said, that, he tried his best to create realistic emotions amidst the team, whose story we would be following.

Also, this time around, unlike the past games, there won’t be multiple characters to control, and it would be just one guy. The reason for this is, that this time, they want you to feel more connected with your team, and focus on them as brothers rather then jumping around to other people. This, in my opinion, is a great change that can really benefit the campaign’s story. So, I really think we should keep our eye on this game.

As the writer, Stephen’s style is very different in mood than the previous games, and that will really help Call of Duty: Ghosts feel new and emotionally powerful. The game also has no connection to the Modern Warfare series whatsoever, and is a brand new story in a world, where the Makarov events never took place. Meaning that the story behind the masks will be new, and Riley, the dog is the only character referencing the past games!

The game is confirmed for release on the PC, PS3, Xbox 360 and the next-gen consoles this November.
