Crystal Dynamics has announced that it now has control over the Tomb Raider as well as the Legacy of Kain IPs.

Earlier this year, Embracer Group acquired a number of Square Enix’s western studios as well as a batch of IPS. Those studios included the likes of Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal. Along with the Tomb Raider and Legacy of Kain IPs, it also included Deus Ex, Thief and more.

The deal is worth a reported $300 and in this day and age, that’s an absolute steal when you consider the IPs now owned by Embracer Group. Furthermore, Embracer Group even acquired rights to the legendary Lord of the Rings franchise.

However, in a blog post, following the Embracers acquisition of the Square Enix western studios, Crystal Dynamics announced in a blog post that it now has control over the Tomb Raider IP.

We are excited to inform you that Crystal Dynamics has taken control of several game franchises—including TOMB RAIDER and Legacy of Kain—from the games’ previous owner, Square Enix Limited.

As a result of this change, Crystal Dynamics (or its affiliate) is now the owner of these games and the controller of the gameplay and personal data related to them.

We look forward to taking this new and exciting journey with you!

Recently, Crystal Dynamics also announced that a new Tomb Raider game is in development and it will be powered by Unreal Engine 5. However, its release is likely to be a few years away.
