Cyberpunk 2077 quest director Pawel Sasko says that criticism of the game’s linear story quests is fair.

Pawel Sasko was answering questions from the community and when asked about how he felt towards the criticisms of Cyberpunk 2077 being more linear at launch than it was built up to be, the developer replied: “well, I think it’s completely justified.

I’ve recently jumped into Cyberpunk 2077 for the first time since launch, and I’ve lost many enjoyable hours in Night City. In my opinion, the city is very dense with a lot going on and many of the side-missions are better than the main quest. However, Sasko acknowledged that “players expected more.”

Sasko went on to explain that many fans had built expectations based on The Witcher 3, which might have hindered opinions on Cyberpunk 2077. However, its endless problems following its launch certainly didn’t help matters.

Players expected more, they expected more because of how The Witcher 3 is built, and I think that Cyberpunk has an insane amount of non-linearity, but I think expectations were higher,” explained Sasko.

Recently, CD Projekt Red announced that Cyberpunk 2077 is getting a sequel. However, not before its expansion Phantom Liberty which releases this year.
