EA is delisting classic Battlefield games
Electronic Arts are delisting classic Battlefield games for seemingly no good reason.
As announced in an EA blog post, Battlefield 1943, as well as Battlefield: Bad Company 1 and 3 will soon be removed from digital stores. From 28 April 2023, you will no longer be able to purchase these games via digital storefronts.

An earlier version of this announcement included Mirror’s Edge. That was an error. We currently have no plans to remove Mirror’s Edge from digital storefronts.

What’s more, the online components will also be deactivated from 8 December 2023, which sucks for those that still like to enjoy these classic Battlefield titles online. However, you will still be able to play the single player components once removed from stores as well as the online multiplayer deactivation.
EA says that the reason the titles are being deleted is so that they can create “new memories alongside you as we shift our focus towards our current and future Battlefield experiences.” Though I can’t see why both can’t co-exist unless EA plans to remaster or remake the games in question.
This news highlights the importance of buying physical media because even if a publisher removes a game digitally, you will still own the game. Unless it’s a game that requires a constant online connection, if so, you’re screwed.
