PC gamers looking forward to Horizon Zero Dawn won’t have to be patient much longer, as the release date for the PC edition of the game has just been revealed via a brand new trailer, and it will be available on the 7th of August this year on Steam.

The new trailer shows off the PC exclusive features players can expect including Ultra Wide Support, Unlocked Framerate, improved reflections and more. However, a host of these features might be a bit demanding as the PC requirements do call for DX12 compatibility as a minimum. The full requirements can be seen below:

MINIMUM:

  • Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
  • OS: Windows 10 64-bits
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-2500K@3.3GHz or AMD FX 6300@3.5GHz
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM
  • Graphics: Nvidia GeForce GTX 780 (3 GB) or AMD Radeon R9 290 (4GB)
  • DirectX: Version 12
  • Storage: 100 GB available space

RECOMMENDED:

  • Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
  • OS: Windows 10 64-bits
  • Processor: Intel Core i7-4770K@3.5GHz or Ryzen 5 1500X@3.5GHz
  • Memory: 16 GB RAM
  • Graphics: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 (6 GB) or AMD Radeon RX 580 (8GB)
  • DirectX: Version 12
  • Storage: 100 GB available space

As you can see the things that stick out are the requirements for not only DX12 as mentioned before but also the 100GB hard-drive space required. The PlayStation 4 version requires around half of that, which makes me think it’s due to uncompressed 4K ready textures as they can easily take a lot of space.

What is interesting to note about the DX12 only requirement is how the feature will be supported in the older cards, as even the GTX 9xx series cards do not support a lot of features that the newer cards do, however the game does list a GTX 780 as a minimum which makes me think more high level stuff like DXR or Asynchronous compute which isn’t supported on any card before the GTX 10xx cards, and can grant a performance boost with features such as Global Illumination, and dynamic lighting.

For these reasons I am very curious to see how it will run on my GTX 980ti card and even on older ones than this supported by the game. Decima is one of the best engines ever made without a doubt, so it will be a treat to see it being used to its full potential through the PC platform.  Horizon Zero Dawn: Complete Edition will also come with all previously released DLC, including the expansion The Frozen Wilds.
