Mafia Trilogy Announced, Reveal Next Week, But Trailer and Screenshots Leaked

Yesterday, after long-running rumours and trademark registrations, 2K announced the Mafia: Trilogy, which was thought to feature three remasters in the trilogy, however, while it seems that Mafia 2 and 3 will have the remaster treatment, but the original Mafia will be a full remake.  The official reveal from 2K was set to take place on Tuesday, May 19th at 5pm BST, however, thanks to some twitchy fingers on the Microsoft Store, not only have screenshots leaked, but trailers and a release date too.

The listings have since been removed from the Microsoft Store, but Twitter user WalkingCat had already captured trailers for Mafia: Definitive Edition and Mafia II: Definitive Edition, granted the videos do not have a great resolution, but they at least give us a taste.

However, it’s perhaps the screenshots that offer the best example as to what to expect in terms of quality.  The original Mafia released in 2002 and judging by these screenshots, these clearly are not from a remastered game, but rather it looks like something built from the ground up with new assets and it will have an “expanded story”.  As someone that never gave the original Mafia a chance, I can’t wait to experience this game for the first time.  The release date of August 28th was also leaked, but Mafia II: Definitive Edition is expected to release next week when the official reveal is made.

So again, thanks to Microsoft, screenshots for Mafia II: Definitive Edition were also leaked, which reveals that it will be a remaster, rather than a remake by the looks of things and it will include all previously released DLC.  While Mafia III: Definitive Edition hasn’t been leaked, I would assume that this will also be a remaster of sorts.  However, rather than just jazzing up some visuals, I really hope the developers at Hanger 13 improve upon the gameplay and mission structure, because that game deserved better.

Also judging by the leaked trailer seen in both tweets, the words “Also Available in the Mafia Trilogy” might indicate that each game will be available to purchase separately, as well as in the trilogy collection.  We also know that the Mafia Trilogy will release for PC, PS4, Xbox One and Google Stadia.

That said, we will soon know more when the official details drop on Tuesday, May 19th.  Also for what it’s worth, below is the official teaser trailer from 2K.
