The Welsh folklore inspired horror Maid of Sker has been revealed for release this month along with the ‘official’ gameplay trailer from Wales Interactive.

The just under two minute trailer is split into a few short edited parts, but gives the gist of what to expect from the more tense sections exploring this haunted hotel.

We see sneaking and hiding from enemies with our character putting their hand over their mouth – suggesting you’ll have to be very careful not to make any sound when baddies are around – we see quite a full inventory preceding the solving of an item based puzzle (key and document finding seem to be in order), and also the use of the game’s sound based weapon.

I suppose it only makes sense that the things trying to get you who are so sensitive to noise would be foiled by a sonic device, and the trailer shows this being put to good use – it looks like it’s non-lethal and would be utilised in situations where you’ve been discovered and need to get away quickly.

There’s something about the gameplay that does look a little janky, and the enemy models look very similar to one another – not sure if intentional, if we’re seeing the same few enemy characters – but this doesn’t worry me too much and I wouldn’t judge it yet by this presentation. Just hopefully it turns out to be smooth in gameplay and as atmospheric as the concept sounds.

The specific launch date for Maid of Sker is 28th July, so coming soon, and the game is being released on PC, Xbox One and PS4.
