New Resident Evil 8 Rumours Emerge, Announcement was planned at E3, Replaces Revelations 3

Back in January, alleged details leaked for Resident Evil 8, the details that emerged stated that the game would once again be in a first-person perspective, will see the return of RE7 protagonist Ethan Winters and that Chris Redfield would also return.  The game was said to be set in “rural, snowy mountain locations” in Europe.  It was also claimed that RE8 would feature mythical creatures such as Werewolves and as wacky as that sounds, as I stated in January, without getting technical with names, the series already has zombie dogs and monkeys, giant spiders, alligators and more.  So really when you think about it, the inclusion of Werewolves might not be all that crazy.

However, over the weekend, new details have emerged that not only backs up the reports from January, but it also reveals some new details too.  Quite interestingly, the new rumours claim that RE8 will feature some form of sanity mechanic, which includes hallucinations and a theme of not being able to trust others.  It sounds very similar to Nintendo GameCube classic Eternal Darkness, and the original concept of Resident Evil 4, before that later became the first Devil May Cry.

To my surprise, the new rumours claim that this form of RE8 was initially intended to be Resident Evil: Revelations 3, but as the original development of RE8 was going to be years away, Capcom made the decision to change what was Resident Evil: Revelations 3 to Resident Evil 8, as they didn’t want there to be a gap of years between RE7 and RE8.  This disappoints me somewhat, as I would have loved to have seen Resident Evil: Revelations 3 and Resident Evil 8, but if true, it is what it is I suppose.

Apparently Resident Evil 8 was going to be revealed at E3 this June, before the event was cancelled due to the Coronavirus, so with that in mind, an official reveal for RE8 might  be only weeks or months away.  Resident Evil 8 is expected to release in 2021 for current and next-gen systems.

Also just last week, other Resident Evil leaks appeared, which are all likely to be linked.  However, as always, we must take all rumours with a pinch of salt, but we’d love to hear your thoughts on these latest rumours across our social media channels.
