New Shakedown Hawaii trailer and details, the successor to Retro City Rampage

It’s been a long time since we heard any new information or even seen a new gameplay trailer on the successor to indie title Retro City Rampage, but now developer Brian Provinciano has released a whole host of juicy details and even thrown in a new gameplay trailer for Shakedown Hawaii for good measure.

Retro City Rampage is an 8-bit top-down, sandbox retro shooter with just about every modern day and yesteryear parody you can think of, and Shakedown Hawaii is an enhanced version of that, not only with its new 16-bit graphics, but also expanded upon gameplay.  The world of Shakedown Hawaii is said to be a whopping four-times bigger to that of Retro City Rampage with even more levels, off the wall characters and mini-games to revival just about any other open-world game on the current market.

In Shakedown Hawaii, you play as a tyrant CEO who wants to make as much money as he can, whilst controlling the world as he sees fit.  So in order to do so, he must build his own empire and he will destroy any business, big or small that even attempts to get in his way.  The CEO/tyrant/property tycoon acts as an anti-hero who also ventures into the world of being a reality TV star and is hell-bent on destroying societies infrastructure and if becoming more wealthy and powerful wasn’t enough, he also wants the people of the world to think of him as some kind of hero, which seems to be very far from the truth.

This path to power is not only what Shakedown Hawaii has to offer, because much like its predecessor, you will be shooting, running down, exploding and causing as much mayhem as humanly possible.  It’s yet again an ambitious project from Brian Provinciano, but if Retro City Rampage is anything to go by, I have every faith that Shakedown Hawaii will be even more fun than the game it acts as a successor too.

Oh and I must add, that while the anti-hero bears a striking resemblance to Mr Donald Trump, Brian Provinciano has stated to Eurogamer that he is not a parody of the US President, as Shakedown Hawaii’s development began way before the presidential election campaigns.  You can read up on further details about Shakedown Hawaii over at vblank.com, as well as finding out how you can get hold of a physical copy of Shakedown Hawaii when it releases.
