Resident Evil 3 Remake Announced with Project Resistance Multiplayer Trolling

After last week’s accidental leaks and previous rumours, Capcom announced the Resident Evil 3 remake, with a troll that probably caught us all off-guard, as the believed to be standalone multiplayer game Project Resistance (now known as Resident Evil Resistance) is in-fact the multiplayer component included in the RE3 remake.  During yesterday’s State of Play, the RE3 remake was announced as RE Resistance’s singleplayer mode, well played Capcom, well played.

As with the original RE3, this remake will take place prior to the events of RE2 and you will play as my favourite Resi character, the “Master of Unlocking” Jill Valentine and of course, you will be stalked throughout by the terrifying Nemesis.  If you thought Mr X was bad enough, wait until you get chased by this monstrosity!

It will be interesting to see what new aspects and areas that they will introduce into the RE3 remake, and I’m wondering if it will also offer multiple choice moments during some encounters with the Nemesis, much like the original did.  Other then Jill and the Nemesis, something that I loved from the original RE3, was that there were more streets of Raccoon City to explore over RE2.  In the RE2 remake, I felt that there wasn’t enough exploring of the city, so hopefully this RE3 remake will retain that aspect.  I’m also hoping that this remake will include The Mercenaries, because I loved that mode in the original.

Below is the Resident Evil 3 announcement trailer, as well as video featuring developer Masachika Kawata, which also includes some additional gameplay footage, as well as an added insight into the game.

In terms of the multiplayer mode, Resident Evil Resistance, personally, I was not overly keen after playing the alpha, but it was an alpha after all and I will give it the benefit of the doubt when the full mode launches.  Resident Evil Resistance is an asymmetrical 4vs1 multiplayer mode, which will pit four “Survivors” with various skill-sets, against the “Mastermind”, who will control the area like a game of D&D with the aim of making sure that the Survivors do not make it out alive.  There will be various Masterminds to play as come launch and Annette Birkin was revealed as the latest addition.

Also, as with the RE2 remake, the Resident Evil 3 remake will come with a Collector’s Edition.  At this time, it has only been announced for North America, but I have been assured by a UK based Capcom Rep, that other regions, including Europe with have a Collector’s Edition, I imagine it will likely have the same contents.

In the announced Collector’s Edition for North America, it will come with a Jill Valentine figurine, similar to the design of the Leon figure from the RE2 remake Collector’s Edition, a hardcover art book, a double-sided poster featuring a map of Raccoon City (the previous map was the RPD map in the previous Collector’s Edition), a digital RE3 soundtrack and of course a copy of the game.

Additionally, for those that pre-order Resident Evil 3, whether it is the standard, Collector’s Edition, physical or digital, you will be gifted with original outfits as DLC for both Jill Valentine and Carlos Oliveira.
