Hands up if you like a good old rumour article from time to time?  I know that I do and these latest rumours will likely send the Metal Gear Solid fan base buzzing with excitement, because the rumours are suggesting that the original PS1 classic from 1998 is getting a remake!

The rumours come courtesy of YouTuber, RedGamingTech, who apparently is quite reliable when it comes to having accurate leaks, however, he does usually specialise with hardware, rather than software.  So as with all rumours, it’s wise to take them with a pinch of salt.  It is suggested that this is a full remake and not a remaster, so does that mean it will be developed using Konami’s Fox Engine?  RedGamingTech also claims that the alleged remake will be a console exclusive for PS5, as well as coming to PC.

In the same video it is also stated that remasters of Metal Gear Solid 2, 3 and 4 are also on the way.  News coming from Gematsu also adds foundation to the additional remaster claims, as they have reported that the original 1987 Metal Gear, as well as Metal Gear Solid and Metal Gear Solid 2 are getting re-released on PC, after their ratings were spotted online.  However, there is no word of these remasters coming to PlayStation or Xbox at this time.

Notably, while the rumours from RedGamingTech mentions Metal Gear Solid 1 to 4, Gematsu only mentions Metal Gear, as well as Metal Gear Solid 1 and 2.  So it would be a shame to have Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater absent.  A remaster of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots would also be amazing, which is my personal favourite game in this series.

Obviously at this time, until Konami makes an official announcement, it’s all speculation.  But if all else fails, the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, which includes NES classics Metal Gear 1 and 2, Metal Gear Solid 2, Metal Gear Solid 3 and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker is backwards compatible on Xbox One, as well as being available for PS3 and PS Vita (though the latter excludes Peace Walker).

If these rumours are true, I can’t wait to play this iconic series again, potentially in 4K and if more people can experience Metal Gear Solid 4, which is a PS3 exclusive, then I that’s great!  What do you make of these rumours?  Let us know across our social media channels.
