South Park: The Fractured But Whole goes Gold and #EGX2017 Preview thoughts

Ubisoft has announced that South Park: The Fractured But Whole has gone Gold, which of course means that its finished its main stage of development and is just about ready to ship at retail and digitally when it releases on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on October 17th.

Furthermore I got to play a preview of the game at EGX last week, which you may recognise the gameplay from this year’s Gamescom (as seen below).  In the preview, we play as the “New Kid” and we are tasked with infiltrating a local strip club during an undercover mission with Captain Diabetes.  The mission involved some unsavoury grinding and providing the club’s DJ with a drink, which I can only really say that one of the ingredients were manmade.

Now I am a lifelong fan of the South Park TV series and I’m quite a difficult person to make laugh, especially with video games for some reason.  However, much like South Park: The Stick of Truth, the demo I played at EGX literally had me laughing out loud, which I expect nothing less from such a franchise.  The combat gameplay has also changed from the original game, while the core combat remains very similar, you can now move your characters around during battle from tile to tile in the hope of gaining an added strategic advantage.

The demo was short, but it certainly got me even more excited for The Fractured But Whole’s big release next month, hopefully we’ll have a review shortly after its October 17tth release.  In the meantime, you can check out the latest gameplay trailer below, which also marked the game going Gold.
