During an interview with UploadVR, creative director Ian Frazier from EA’s Motive Studios, the team behind the recently released Star Wars Squadrons has revealed that there are no plans to release DLC for the game.

When speaking during the interview, Frazier said “We don’t want to say ‘it’s almost done!’ and then dribble out more of it over time, which to be honest is how most games work these days,” Frazier added “So we’ve tried to treat it in kind of an old-school approach saying, ‘you’ve paid the $40, this is the game and it’s entirely self-contained. We’re not planning to add more content, this is the game, and we hope you understand the value proposition.

While I do appreciate this full-version on release stance to a degree, especially as I hate the “release now, fix later culture” and petty DLC just to milk extra cash from consumers, if done right, DLC is a fantastic addition to any successful game.  If a game is well received, in particular to those that have a big focus on multiplayer, at some point, content will still feel stale and fans will get bored.

So while I would like to see new modes added to Star Wars Squadron’s at a later date as free updates, new maps would be a great way to extend the games life and keep the online player base thriving, even as paid DLC.  However, it is worth keeping in mind that while EA are taking this no DLC approach, this is EA that we’re talking about, so “never say never”.

Additionally, a new patch has released for Star Wars Squadrons, which fixes a bug related to Fleet Battles ranking, which prevented some players from ranking-up once they have completed their initial placement matches.  The update also fixes reported issues in regards to deadzone’s when using the controller to manourve; players can now modify the deadzone area.  Visual effects for VR mode has also been implemented, such as brightness and bloom effects.  You can read the full patch notes here.
