Whilst a lot of gamers who don’t play on a PC might not have heard much about the issue going on with the Steam Controllers, they would’ve definitely heard of Valve’s iconic sales, that offer some of the best discounts on their catalogue of videogames.

One of the hottest deals during the recent Autumn Sale was for Valve’s proprietary Steam Controllers.  Even with the shipping in the UK, you could get the controller for only £12 altogether.  The reason for this deep cut, is that Valve has decided to discontinue further work on these controllers and were looking to clear out their remaining stock. This means, once these are gone, they are gone forever!

It was such an enticing deal and opportunity to own a piece of history (Valve’s only controller), that the product went out of stock in hours. However, that wasn’t the only issue facing the controllers, as loads of customers had their orders automatically refunded and cancelled. Unfortunately, I was one of them. The demand was so high, that I had to wait for small windows when stocks became available, as the controllers were going in and out of stock.

Valve has peculiarly decided to remain silent, prompting questions from those who had their orders cancelled. At the time of writing, there are multiple threads open on the controller’s discussion page alone, demanding answers. Quite a few people did not even get an email confirming the cancellation of their order or a refund.

What I did find curious is that a lot of people who had their orders cancelled were from Europe, which does make us wonder if priority was given to state-side customers due to how much money they might have lost shipping the controller overseas. However, this is all speculation at this point.

We have reached out to Valve for a statement, and we will update the article if we get a reply.
