Ninja Gaiden 3 first released in 2012 and despite the series reaching high critical acclaim, the third instalment wasn’t so well received (I won’t even go into that Yaiba spin-off).  Combat-wise, it just didn’t feel quite the same, the story wasn’t as intriguing and the fact that they also unmasked protagonist Ryu Hayabusa, didn’t go down all that well with fans of the series either.  However, despite Ninja Gaiden 3’s shortcomings, it’s still a series that is in high demand and fans would love to see a return for Ryu, especially as he’s not greeted us with his own game during this console generation.

Thankfully, while the developers at Team Ninja are busy working on Nioh 2, while speaking to IGN, Nioh 2 director Fumihiko Yasuda is aware that fans would love to see Ninja Gaiden return “We are aware that some fans wanted Ninja Gaiden more than Nioh 2,” said Fumihiko.  He then added “Now we see a lot of ninja games like [Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice] as well, and we see a lot of good inspirations in those games, so we hope to deliver some good news one day.

So while we can’t expect to see a new Ninja Gaiden anytime soon, at least the developers are aware that it’s still a beloved series.  Though whenever the next game may arrive, it’s safe to assume that it will be a next-gen title.

Would you love to see the return of Ryu and Ninja Gaiden, perhaps a continuation of the series or even a reboot?  Sneak your way into the comments section of our social media channels to share your thoughts.
