Ok, I did not expect to hear this news at any point after the closure of Telltale Games, but I am happy to say that Telltale Games is coming back, this time under a new ownership.  LCG Entertainment has purchased the studio, which includes holding rights to the Telltale Games assets, trademarks, technology, “select” intellectual properties and more.

Led by Jamie Ottilie and Brian Waddle, they managed to gather a team of investors to bring Telltale Games back to life, which includes the likes of Chris Kingsley, Tobias Sjögren, Lyle Hall as key investors and Athlon Games as a shareholder and publishing partner.  The new headquarters will be based in Malibu, California.

While we don’t know what games will be coming back, we can expect some games to get re-released and they will develop brand new titles.  So with a bit of luck, we will see the likes of Batman, Guardians of the Galaxy, Game of Thrones and The Wolf Among Us continue their seasons, as well as un-released licences such as the adaptation of Stranger Things being revitalised.  I would imagine that seeing as Skybound Entertainment saved The Walking Dead Telltale series after the closure, this is a series that we might not see back with the studio, but you never know.

The new CEO of Telltale Games, Jamie Ottilie had this to say on this fantastic announcement:

All of us were big fans of the games Telltale created, as we strongly believe in games as a storytelling medium and nobody did it better,” said Ottilie. “Even now, when you see a game with strong narrative, it’s always compared to Telltale, so it’s no surprise that players and industry colleagues alike mourned the studio’s closure. We believe there is still so much life to the brand and its franchises, and we look forward to building upon the company’s storytelling legacy.

Brian Waddle, the new Chief Revenue Officer at Telltale Games added:

There is still a huge fan base of Telltale players and that’s one of the main reasons we decided to make this investment,” said Waddle, chief. “It’s hard to see your favourite games disappear or not get the sequels they deserve, so we thank everyone for their patience and support. We’ve got some exciting things to share soon. We’ll try not to keep them waiting too long, but we think fans will be pleased.

No doubt this will come as fantastic news for fans of Telltale Games and as they hire new (and maybe returning staff), hopefully they might treat their employees better then under the last regime.  Do let us know your thoughts on this news across our social media channels.
