Confirming all the rumours, The Last of Us remake is on the way, and it arrives this coming September.

The original Last of Us was released for PS3 in 2013, before being remastered for the PS4 a year later. In truth, this game is still fantastic on both PS3 and PS4. So, I wouldn’t say it’s really in need of a full remake.

That being said, if I can play an even better version of one of my favourite games of all time, I know for a fact I will be picking this up. So, I’m not complaining. Looking at the comparisons, it initially doesn’t seem like a massive visual leap.

However, it seems to me that the cut-scene visuals seen in the PS4 version, look to be what’s in-game for the PS5 version. Additionally, the new character models in the remake look to have a closer resemblance to the character models in The Last of Us: Part 2, so there is that continuity.

This remake is being built from the ground up powered by the engine used for The Last of Us: Part 2. However, because this is a PlayStation 5 and PC game, it won’t be restricted by last-gen hardware. So, I would imagine that from a technical standpoint, this should surpass the sequel in some respect.

Judging from the gameplay trailer, this looks to be a shot-for-shot remake of the original. Which I’m fine with because, in my opinion, the story and gameplay segments from the original are near perfect. However, visuals have certainly been improved and gameplay will be more refined.

The Last Of Us: Part 1 will also include the Left Behind expansion. If I was going to take a guess, rather than this being a standalone expansion, I would assume that it would be seamlessly transitioned into the campaign.

As well as the gameplay and visuals being improved, The Last of Us: Part 1 will also take advantage of the PS5 DualSense controller features and the console’s 3D Audio. The Last Of Us: Part 1 will also arrive on PC at some point after the PS5 launch.

At launch, there will be two versions of The Last of Us to pick up from the PS Store, a standard edition and a Digital Deluxe. You will also of course be able to purchase physical copies of the game from your retailer of choice. Personally, I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed for a Collector’s Edition with a Joel statue.

Looking at the content for the Digital Deluxe, it mostly offers early access to in-game items. For me, I like the challenge of The Last of Us on the higher difficulty settings, so early access to items to make the game easier doesn’t really appeal to me.

The Last of Us: Part 1 Digital Deluxe includes:
