Following last night’s extended gameplay reveal for Gotham Knights, it was revealed that last-gen consoles will be ditched.

Up until this point, Gotham Knights was going to be released on both new-gen and last-gen consoles. Sadly, however, that will no longer be the case.

WB Games stated that this decision was made to “provide players with the best possible gameplay experience.” As such, Gotham Knights will now only release on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

To be honest, it sucks, especially as not everyone can get hold of a new-gen console. On a personal level, I was looking forward to playing co-op with my son, who owns last-gen consoles.

That being said, I understand why the decision has been made. When Batman Arkham was released 7 years ago in 2015, it was already an ambitious game on the current consoles of its time, pushing its tech to the limits. Batman Arkham Knight was only a single player game, so I can only imagine that last-gen consoles would struggle with the co-op demands of Gotham Knights.

Gotham Knights will release for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on October 25th. Are you disappointed that last-gen consoles have been ditched? Let us know across our social media channels.
