Here’s 18 Minutes of Ghost of Tsushima Combat and Exploration Gameplay #StateOfPlay

Yesterday’s State of Play from PlayStation was solely dedicated to Ghost of Tsushima from Sucker Punch Productions, the developers of Infamous: Second Son.  In the 18-minutue we got to see some of the open-world that protagonist Jin will be able to explore.

In terms of exploration in the very sizable map, we learned that the game will have a different approach to setting a waypoint that will lead us to our chosen destination.  Once the location is selected, rather than have a highlighted icon, instead we will have to look out for gusts of wind that will lead the way.  It’s certainly something less traditional, in a way that doesn’t completely hold your hand, but still helps you get to where you need to be.  We were also informed to keep a look out for visual cues, such as smoke in a distance or even wildlife such as birds and foxes that could lead us to secret locations.  Along his travels, we also saw Jin collect resources as crafting materials.

When we got to the combat portion of the demonstration, we saw how Jin can be the deadly samurai taking on his foes head one, which can also instigate a cool standoff with your enemies.  Jin walked into an enemy camp, sliced them down with some dramatic slow-motion presentation when a move is parried and he also deflected enemy arrows.  Then we saw some stealth gameplay known as being a Ghost, which is very ninja-esque.  Here Jin was stalking in the shadows, taking down enemies in a blink of an enemy, luring them to their death using tools such as fire crackers and striking fear into those that oppose him.

We’ll also be able to customise Jin, not only in appearance, but also his move-set too.  As you progress into the game, Jin will level-up and become more powerful, all while learning new skills and abilities.  We can also enhance his skill-set by acquiring charms to give his abilities a boost.  Also not only can we change his clothing, which offer various different perks for a variety of combat scenarios, but we can also collect dye flowers that can change the colour of Jin’s clothing.

Another cool features that we got to see in motion, was the choice of languages available to us.  For example, we can play the game with English dialogue or in Japanese with English sub-titles, we can even play Ghost of Tsushima with Japanese dialogue with no sub-titles for something truly pure.  Ghost of Tsushima will also feature a robust photo mode and something called Samurai Cinema, which will allow you to play the game with a dramatic black & white filter, with exaggerated wind effects, that will replicate classic samurai movies of old.

Are you excited to play Ghost of Tsushima?  Let us know across our social media channels.  Ghost of Tsushima will release for PlayStation 4 on July 17th.
