It seems that the physical copy of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 on Xbox One isn’t eligible for a free next-gen upgrade to Xbox Series X|S (thanks GameByte).

The news was revealed on the Activision FAQ page:

“Purchasers of a standard digital edition of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 for Xbox One will have the option to upgrade to an Xbox Series X|S version through the Xbox Store. An internet connection is required to upgrade the game.

Please note: The upgrade offer is not available with physical versions of the game on Xbox One.”

Even though I don’t own the game on PlayStation 4,  this is a raw deal for Xbox One owners, because you’d think those that own physical copies of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 on the Microsoft console, would get the same deal as on PlayStation.

So in a nutshell, if you own a physical copy of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 on Xbox One, and you purchased an Xbox Series X|S, you would have to buy the game again if you want the advantages of the new-gen port.

However, as long as you own the Digital Deluxe Edition on PS4, you’d automatically be eligible for a new-gen upgrade.  If you own the standard edition, the upgrade will cost you less than £10.

Hopefully this Xbox One to Xbox Series X|S upgrade issue might be a typo of some sort and if not, I really hope that Activision and Microsoft can work it out, so that Xbox players get the same deal as PlayStation owners.

In terms of the PlayStation 5 version of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+5, as revealed by the tweet below the game will make use of the haptic feedback and adaptive triggers of the DualSense controller and will feature cross-gen progression.

The game will also be playable at 120fps at 1080p, native 4K at 60fps will feature 3D audio, and more.

In my review of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2, I said: “Simply put, this is a prime example of how a remake should be done and I can hand-on-heart say, that Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+ 2 is one of this generation’s best!”

The new-gen port releases today for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
