Rockstar Games has announced that it will be turning off the online servers for GTA Online later this year.

The servers being turned off won’t impact PC, PS4, or Xbox One, but instead will be deactivated for the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions.

GTA Online which released in 2013 with Grand Theft Auto 5 for PS3 and Xbox 360 has had a good run, but in preparation for GTA 5 releasing on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S this Fall, Rockstar Games has come to this decision.

The servers for GTA Online on PS3 and Xbox 360 will be deactivated on December 16th, 2021. The option to buy Shark Cards will also be removed on September 16th.  Refunds will also not be offered for any Shark Card purchased on PS3 or Xbox 360.

Though if you are still playing on PS3 or Xbox 360, I certainly wouldn’t recommend buying any further cards from now on the impacted systems.

Rockstar Games has also stressed that despite the servers being shut down for GTA Online on PS3 and Xbox 360, access to the GTA 5 single player campaign will not be impacted.

Unfortunately, if you haven’t made the jump from PS3/Xbox 360 to PS4/Xbox One, you won’t be able to transfer your character’s progress as that function has long since been removed (as confirmed on Rockstar Games support).

Rockstar Games also announced that the servers will also be switched off for L.A Noire and Max Payne 3 on PS3 and Xbox 360. Stat tracking on the Rockstar Games Social Club, which also includes GTA 5/GTA Online. Though you will still be able to access the single player campaigns for L.A Noire and Max Payne 3.
