So, Gears of War 3 on PlayStation 3 is a Thing and Here’s the Footage!

Update: Epic has confirmed this footage is in-fact real and it was used as a test, but was never intended to release on PS3. So there you have it, it’s all quite cool this exists really.

Original Story: So, this is a story I’d never thought I’d be writing up, but according to some leaked footage, Gears of War 3 was or is playable on the PlayStation 3.  Obviously the Gears of War franchise is synonymous with the Xbox console from the 360 to the Xbox One, so to see Gears of War 3 being played on the PS3, its certainly an odd thing to witness.

Posted by Twitter user Pronto, they shared gameplay featuring over eight hours of footage with a campaign playthrough, although two levels are apparently not playable from Act 3, Chapter 3 “Convoy” and the finale.  From what I’ve seen from the gameplay below, the game doesn’t run as smooth as the 360 version and it seems to be a little buggy.

 

I’d be totally shocked if Gears of War 3 was planned to come to PS3, even if this footage said to be from 2011, pre-dates Microsoft buying the rights from Epic in 2014.  Pronto claims that the footage is a PS3 build, despite the gameplay showing Xbox 360 button prompts, which it would have been more convincing if the gameplay featured PS3 button commands instead.  However, Pronto did attempt to back-up the claims by showing Gears of War 3 booting up from the PS3 dashboard.

The Gears of War 3 split-screen co-op on PS3 also works, though the game is unable to connect to the PlayStation Network or Xbox Live for that matter.  Do you believe this is a genuine build of Gears of War 3 on PS3?  Let us know your thoughts across our social media channels.
