The on rails shooter has unfortunately become somewhat of a defunct genre of game. With better computational processors and graphical voxels to throw around, classic games like Operation Wolf, Mad Dog McCree or Virtua Cop haven’t had a lot of attention in the last 10-years. Although the Wii does bolster the biggest selection and variety of things to ‘Zap’, nothing has captured the heyday of Duck Hunt on the NES, the fun of a SNES Super Scope on your shoulder or the “Action” of Time Crisis played with a GunCon. The most popular and best reviewed shooter in years has been House Of The Dead, but even this has only seen a resurgence in popularity due to the switching from hand-eye accuracy to just needing good touch typing accuracy in Typing Of The Dead.

Despite this new on rails games continue to appear. Some are fun (Blue Estate) some …not so (I’m looking at you Rambo The Video Game). Importantly a loyal number of on rails fans are keeping the genre alive with ROM’s of classic emulated arcade (via MAME), but how do you best play these classic shooters and in way they were meant to be played? Appropriately named company “Arcade Guns” may be able to help with that.

The Arcade Guns v2.0 Light Gun Kit is available now from the companies website for $154.99.
