There have been quite a few Adventure Time games on consoles by now, but surprisingly none of them have attempted a 3D adventure. Adventure Time: Finn and Jake Investigations looks to change that. It’s something that feels quite interesting at first but its clunkiness lets it down frequently.

You play as Finn and Jake as you explore the Land of Ooo and solve various crimes that have been committed. At its core the game is a modern take on the point and click adventure. You combine various items to make new ones and use them on things you wouldn’t initially think of using them on. These parts of the game are quite fun, especially with the voice cast performing well with a script that has some decent laughs in it.

It’s the way that the game is pieced together that lets it down though. The combat sections are tedious and not fun, and some of the items are quite awkward to spot. With items being difficult to spot you can find yourself running about the same few areas quite a bit trying to figure out what you should be doing.

Graphically Adventure Time: Finn and Jake Investigations is fairly poor but there’s a certain charm to it, with the script definitely helping to boost up its score a tiny bit. It’s far from a great game but it’s an interesting base that will hopefully be built upon. The target audience is definitely younger gamers but there’s enough of a challenge over the 6-10 hours of play time there for older gamers if they fancy giving it a go.
